Lisa Harlow

I moved every couple of years growing up and have seen much of our country and met many interesting and diverse people. As a result, people and places interest me much more than “things” and this is what I usually explore in my art. Since 1996, my husband and I have lived in Richmond, VA where we raised four terrific kids. We also have a home in Harborton, VA, on the eastern shore, where we spend as much time as we possibly can. It is very rural there, with large farming operations and tiny quaint fishing villages. No crowds, no shopping malls, just honest hard-working people and beauty everywhere you look. I enjoy packing up my easel, paints and lots of bug spray for an afternoon of painting.

I graduated from college in 1979 with a BFA in Graphic Design. Since then I have worked for 30 years in the advertising industry both as a designer and in management. As of May 2011 I transitioned to a full-time art career.
I also enjoy travel and take at least one painting trip a year. I attend Springmaid workshops each fall to work with nationally known artists and I work as an assistant taking groups on painting trips to a variety of locations. We have taken painting groups to Italy and several trips to Charleston and our favorite - Bermuda. I also love to teach basic design and Yupo workshops to local artists in my new studio on the eastern shore.
